Im getting a ton of questions about Hourglass Mage. We were told a while back that it hasnt been written, and yet I keep seeing it posted on Amazon as coming out in July and theyre taking preorders. Whats going on? Well, we wish truth were happier... Margaret and I have talked about this and are both deeply hurt and concerned. We dont want our fans or book buyers to be mislead. To be clear, the book has not been turned in as yet by us. Further, we were just informed that Wizards of the Coast is not allowing us to turn in the manuscript -- in other words they dont even want to read it. We have seen the book being pre-sold as coming out in July with our names on it, but the plot described is not ours. If we havent turned it in and they are refusing now to accept or even look at the manuscript from us ... we are at a complete loss as to what to think. It certainly both puzzling and upsetting. Also, I don't wish to get personal, but, do you still get paid for the book? As someone who is trying to learn exactly how publishing works, what options do either of you have in a situation like this?

Regardless, it doesn't justify this response: either they tell you to write the book, and they publish it. Or they tell you to not bother.

I completely agree with rswrig. We need to let them know this is crap. Further, if they don't publish the book I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM WotC AGAIN!! Can they publish a book with your name on it without you having written it?! On the flip side, if they decide not to publish it, can you take it to a different publisher even though you wrote it "for" WotC? I'm in agreement with the boycott. I buy WotC products out of loyalty to my favorite authors, not out of loyalty to a corporate entity. I go where you guys go. Then again, I'm also still waiting for the 3rd Starshield novel... :-D

This is your baby and you have been working on it for ages only to be mistreated. It makes me think that many of the people now working with the company are unaware of the products sold there and the fact that we as consumers will take note of poor management. I have been wary of WotC since they removed some of the other lines from future printing. It makes me wonder what they are thinking of late.

I HOPE NOT. Raistlin is my favorite character and I want to hear about him from, well his Earth mom and dad, not some kender who heard it from a ghost, who's nanny was a mistress of Ariakas, who heard from her sister that was another black robed mage that used to work with Raistlin gathering herbs.

All the yanked licenses to start with and the fact that they also pulled the plug on Dragon and Dungeon. It's like they're going through a period of the Terrible Two's and repeatedly yelling 'Mine!' and snatching at everything in sight. I haven't heard anyone who's come up with a good rationalization for why all of this is going on.

Stating that according to the title page of Dragons of the Highlord Skies that it was supposed to be out this July, but on their products list it isn't listed. This is what Paul sent me: "Wizards of the Coast planned to release Dragons of the Hourglass Mage in July 2008, as published in our catalog and posted on Amazon and other sites for pre-order. Despite our efforts, a manuscript was not forthcoming. Plans for the book are on hold; we have not recommissioned it. Today, we communicated this news to our distributor, and we expect that within the coming week retailers taking pre-orders for this book will cancel those orders. We are always disappointed when our business partners dont honor their obligations to us, but we must move forward to ensure the continued success of our publishing business. We will happily pass on any feedback you might have to the appropriate teams to make sure your voice is heard." Mr. Hickman I would back yours and Ms. Weis's decision to find a loophole in your contract with Wizards and find a new publisher, if that is what you decide to do.

Others that had posted before me had talked about starting a letter and e-mail campaign. It was my intent to show them the kind of response they would receive. Other than that I hope you understand that expressing our outrage with Wizards of the Coast is our way of showing our support for you and Ms. Weis. I apologize if I stepped over the line.
