My name is Terrence Pugh, and I am halfway through the Death Gate Cycle. Let me tell you, I am impressed! Normally, fantasy novels are too cliched for me to read, but yours is definitely different. I've recently been thinking that I'd like to try to make a card game out of Death Gate. The Death Gate universe has a lot of material, and I think it would translate well to a card game. I'm curious to know if you'd be ok with a fan-created project such as this? It won't even be for profit, but mostly just because I really like the book series, and I like to design card games. If you're ok with it, is there any material about the Death Gate universe that would help me with this project? If so, would I be able to use it? On behalf of a then-existing forum, I asked if it'd be all right for a fan group to create a not-for-profit comic adaptation of DGC, and she said yes. We never did make that comic, but it was great hearing from one of the authors that we were allowed to create fan projects. I'm not sure if that's changed at all with the possibility of Margaret Weis Productions maaaybe doing a DGC RPG system (no updates on that front in months-- unless Tracy wants to chime in with a status report?) Just as a fan, though, I'd be happy to help track down information you might need. I don't know card games, but I'm good at finding DGC info

I've started to look through the books again for material, and so far the search is good. However, there are some things that I know I won't be able to find. For example, in the appendix of Dragon Wing, where rune magic is discussed, it also discusss mensch magic. Particularly, it makes mention of the "Houses of Magic", such as House of Firmament (that of Arianus), and House of Life (I assume to be of Chelestra). Is there any way you can get more information on all the Houses of Magic, and what types of spells each house governs. House of Firmament has a decent explanation in said appendix, but that is the only one that is discussed. The other main thing is to find out more about the non-mensch creatures of the realms, especially the Labyrinth. A few are mentioned, such as the wolfen who hunt in packs, and the chaodyn that can replicate itself. As for the other realms the only creatures that really show up are the dragons. Are you able to get more information on this topic, because it would be very useful and greatly appreciated. As far as Rune Magic goes, I think that it would almost be easier to simply create and design Rune Magic out of ideas, rather than try to pull it all from the books. Since Rune Magic works on possibilities, the range of spells is near-infinite, so that could be done by whoever wants to help with this project, whenever I get it fully underway. I loved it right up until the end, and I was really pleased to see some elaboration on the Labyrinth, and I give a kudos to Margaret and Tracy for pretty much tying up almost all of the questions. I've put a little more thought to the card game, and since magic plays a large part, a good portion of the cards in the game can be spells. Characters will be prominent as well, representing the different characters at different stages of the storyline, so there will be plenty of Alfred, Haplo, and Hugh the Hand cards. I'm thinking about also including a type that would encompass different objects, from a Glowstone Lamp all the way to the Cursed Blade. I need a good name for a card, type, though. Also, there will be 'event' cards that show major and minor events in the books. There really is a massive amount of material in this universe, so I think, with a lot of searching and a good amount of time, this could become a pretty good card game. A major factor that will affect the game, I think, will be Chaos present in the different realms, since it was a major goal of many characters, and the events brought on by that Chaos was the driving force for the storyline. Travel between the realms will also be important, just like in the books. That's all I've got so far, but more will be coming. Thanks again, Margaret and Tracy!

As you said, the Dragon Wing appendix has the only discussion of the Houses, so I'm afraid I have no more confirmed information to give you. I can only work out an interpretation of the figure, so let's break this down: House Spring/Life - Water - Chelestra House Dark/Death - Earth - Abarrach House Sun/Power - Fire - Pryan House Firmament/Mind - Air - Arianus We know that each House is broken down further into Spiritual Masteries (used by humans) and Physical Masteries (used by elves), and each Mastery is also broken down into the Greater Disciplines (House Advocate - Fifth through Seventh Masteries) and Lesser Disciplines (House Servitor - First through Fourth Masteries). Somewhat confusingly, on Arianus and Chelestra the wizard's Mastery rank is referred to as their "House," so there's a lot of "House" terminology flying around. It's possible that Bane might have approached the Eighth Mastery, between the Seventh of his mysteriarch parents and the Patryn/Sartan rune magic at Ninth, since he was able to learn how to draw and activate Sartan runes. That suggests a different level of understanding than any of the other post-Sundering mensch have, but that's just my theory. We don't know what the mensch magic was like on Abarrach before they all died, but some rough sense of Chelestra and Pryan might be workable based on textual evidence. I've never played card games, so I don't really have a grasp on what kind of cards are involved and what to include on them!
