i just finished my 3rd/4th? read of the death gate cycle and i have to say, it's still brilliant and moving after all these years. hats off to W&H.
even after so many reads one question remains unanswered in my mind: why does the water of chelestra nullify rune magic? my gut feeling is that this is one of those bombadil-type mysteries that's meant to be inexplicable. practically speaking it seems like a good plot device to keep the sartan subdued. those are my theories. if anyone still reads this sub-forum and/or has an idea, i'd love to hear.
good evening and good will toward men.
